The University of Limerick (UL) is a state university established by the Government of Ireland in 1972. UL with over 11,000 students and 1,200 staff is a young, energetic and enterprising university with a proud record of innovation in education and excellence in research and scholarship. UL is situated on a superb riverside campus of over 300 acres with the River Shannon as unifying focal point. Undergraduate Studies:

UL offers 66 four-year primary degree programmes. The academic year runs from September to May and intending students may apply online or directly to the International Education Division, University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland. A unique feature of academic life at UL is the Cooperative Education Programme (undergraduate work placement), which involves placement of all students in employment relevant to their academic interests for a minimum of seven months. This is organised by the University and students may be paid for the period.

The University of Limerick has an established reputation for being Ireland’s leading university in industry-led research. This has resulted in significant research commercialisation activities and collaboration between UL’s leading researchers and industry.
All of the University of Limerick’s key research indicators are showing strong growth, with increases in research applications, research income, postgraduate numbers and commercialisation activities complementing the strong gains in research outputs.

UL offers English language programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These programmes are designed for students who need to improve their English language and study skills in order to enter a degree programme at UL or another English-speaking university. The Language Centre offers an 11 week, 22 week or 33 week Preparation for University Course and a 4 week English for Academic Purpose course.

 

On Campus Accommodation

UL has superb on-campus accommodation in five attractive village and apartment style complexes. All student residences are within walking distance to the main university buildings. With residential village managers on site the villlages offer students an attractive living environment which enhances both academic and social development of the student.

Sports Facilities:

Known as ‘Ireland’s Sporting Campus’ UL boasts Ireland first ever 50 meter swimming pool. Other facilities include the National Strength and Conditioning Centre, a Cardio-Fitness Centre and a Court Sports Hall. Sport facilities also include the University of Limerick Activity Centre in Killaloe. The Activity Centre is situated on the picturesque shore of Lough Derg 20 minutes from the main campus. It is ideally suited for outdoor activities i.e. sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, orienteering, archery and mountain biking.

Application Procedure

The University of Limerick accepts direct application from non-EU candidates for taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. All intending applicants must apply to the International Education Division before July 1st every year to guarantee a place at the University of Limerick beginning the following September.

Applicants are advised to apply early.
